Elder Akinyi Makoba  (Grade: 4)

Elder is one of four siblings. He is being brought up by his oldest brother, Victor Makaba, who is a sponsored student in our program. After their parents passed away, these four siblings were cared for by their elderly grandmother, who unfortunately died during the pandemic. The children were sent to live with a relative, but another tragedy struck and their relative’s husband also passed away. This relative could no longer care for the children. Victor Makoba, was attending Odera High School while also caring for his brothers and sisters. Whenever possible, he worked in the fields to support his younger siblings. Before sponsorship, Victor feared he may have to drop out to be the breadwinner in his family. Thanks to sponsorship, both Victor and Elder can now attend school.
