Deborah's mother is a widow and they live in an extremely remote part of Kenya. The Maasai lands. Very tribal and very poor. Her mother has found children and can barely make money for food. Deborah is very bright but if left alone, girls at this age facing desperate poverty reach for desperate measures. Often girls at this age can be married off for money or forced to work at home.
